Democracy Lives! - Model Project
The civil society organization Ambulante Maßnahmen Altona e. V. is implementing the "Democracy Lives!" model project Legato Bremen. The project aims to counteract anti-democratic attitudes and politically and/or religiously motivated radicalization among young people in prison and during probation at an early stage.
The organization provides systemic counseling, discussion groups, and educational programs for inmates. An interdisciplinary team works in several modules both inside and outside the prison system. The focus is on interrupting radicalization processes and counteracting social isolation and disintegration. Disengagement processes are initiated and professionally supported as needed.
The training and professional development of staff in the prison system and the entire transitional system, including probation and beyond, as well as in youth services within criminal proceedings, is a central element of the project. The aim is for professionals to gain sensitivity and confidence in dealing with at-risk and already radicalized young people, and for the experiences and knowledge gained from the project to be integrated into the standard system.
Furthermore, the aim is to develop operational certainty regarding data protection and risk management, methods for systemic disengagement work, and systemic expert advice for subsequent projects as well. Legato Bremen is funded by the federal program "Democracy Live!" and is a project in cooperation with the Senator for Justice and Constitution of Bremen.
