Services for parents and their children in the Hemelingen district

The House of the Family (HdF) is a facility of the Bremen Office for Social Services. It is part of the Social Service for Young People, Hemelingen/Osterholz Social Center, Pfalzburger Straße 69a. The facility has been operating in the Hinter den Ellern area (Hemelingen district) since 1968 and – like the other 10 Houses of the Family in Bremen – originated from the "Bremen Mothers' Schools".

The services are aimed at people of all ages, and especially at mothers, fathers, and children from infancy onward. The Family Center is dedicated to supporting people from all social backgrounds in challenging life situations. It is a place for families to discuss parenting and partnership issues, and a place where families are encouraged to seek out and build connections with others and establish social networks.

HdF Hemelingen Program 2025/26

Learning processes are encouraged and supported, and knowledge about infant/toddler/child development, parenting topics, health, and nutrition is imparted. Promoting the integration of people from different cultures and countries of origin at the neighborhood level, as well as initiating family support services through direct, easily accessible, and unbureaucratic assistance or referrals, is another important task of the Family Center.

The entrance to the Family Center, the Hemelingen Senior Citizens' Advisory Service, MoKi, the playgroups, the "Arriving in the Neighborhood" program, the federal multigenerational housing project, the early intervention center, and the public health department is located on the side facing the café (ASB café with garden project). The entrance to the daycare center (playhouse) is on the playground side. The building is wheelchair accessible.
