From Tom to Garfield, from Sylvester to the Cheshire Cat, from Pete to Hello Kitty: cats are the heroes of comics and cartoons. A workshop for all children who love to draw and want to transform their feline friend into a comic character. After a short tour of the "Cult Cat!" exhibition, the children will get creative under the guidance of illustrator Lucy Hollwedel and draw their own comic. When the museum dims, a very special treasure hunt begins: On the flashlight tour, visitors slink through the new special exhibition "Cult Cat!" on velvety paws. In the beam of their flashlights, they encounter mysterious cats, mighty tigers, fascinating leopards, and other members of the feline family. Why have cats been revered, feared, and mystified for millennia? And what makes them such a cult figure even today – from sacred animals in ancient Egypt to internet stars? An exciting journey of discovery for anyone who wants to experience cats in a truly unique light. Tickets cost €15, concessions €13, and can be purchased online or at the museum ticket office.

Family activity: Cat masks

Masks exist in many cultures worldwide – sometimes with a spiritual function, sometimes with a cultural one, sometimes purely decorative. In the special exhibition, families search for masks with cat faces and learn more about their origin and meaning. Afterwards, they make their own cat masks out of paper. Whether cute or rather frightening with large fangs and glowing eyes, everyone can decide for themselves.
The family activity for children aged 6 and up (accompanied by an adult) costs €17.50, concessions €14.00. Tickets are available online or in advance at the ticket office.

Holiday program: Modeling a cat statue

After a guided tour of the special exhibition "Cult Cat!", where the children encounter many different cats, they will then create their own cats out of clay. Together with illustrator Lucy Hollwedel, the children will model a cat's body using a basic form, learning more about the fundamentals of working in 3D and with modeling clay. Participation costs €22.50, and tickets are available online or at the museum ticket office. Please bring a cardboard box for the finished cat statue and wear clothes that can get dirty.

Workshop: Eye of Horus, be vigilant!

Egypt for children aged 6 and up (parents are welcome to accompany them).
Why do Egyptian gods so often have animal heads? Who was Horus? Why can the Eye of Horus fly, and why does a dung beetle bring good luck? In this workshop, children will discover how the Egyptians lived, what they imagined the afterlife to be like, and whether real mummies exist only in Egypt. They will immerse themselves in the world of the Egyptians, explore the Egyptian treasures at the Übersee-Museum Bremen, and learn the basics of Middle Egyptian hieroglyphic writing.
