The association “Aktive Menschen Bremen eV” (AMeB eV for short) was founded in October 2008 on the initiative of 15 members of the AWO Bremen with the aim of securing community centers for the future and continuing them with new ideas and structures.
The association's purpose is to promote civic engagement, senior citizen support, and public health. The community centers serve as open meeting places in the neighborhoods for older people to communicate and participate in social and cultural life. This includes, among other things, organizing and conducting informational and educational programs, cultural events such as readings, and involving older people in the planning, design, and implementation of these programs.
Another focus is networking and community engagement within the neighborhood and district. This includes, among other things, intergenerational projects, events, and programs in collaboration with other organizations and institutions. Furthermore, many self-help groups, heritage associations, initiatives, and organizations utilize the facilities for their discussion groups, programs, and activities.
Twelve community centers, serving as open meeting places for people of different backgrounds, offer space for fun, sports, culture, and more.
