The Diaconal Association Bremen eV, as the leading association of independent welfare organizations, represents the interests of its 45 independent members, who are active in all areas of social work – for example in the areas of elderly care, disability care, child and youth welfare, homeless care or healthcare.
More than 4,500 full-time employees and almost 1,500 volunteers are active in these member institutions (as of 2021). Around 150 volunteers complete a voluntary service year with Diakonie Bremen each year.
Our guiding principles
Based on the Gospel and as part of the Church, we act diaconally and support people as a diverse community – unconditionally and cooperatively.
Within the Church and in society, we make a lasting, pioneering, and visible impact through word and deed, faith and action, and love of God and neighbor. In this way, we help shape a social, loving, and responsible society.
Our task
The Diakonie sees itself as an advocate for people in need. It campaigns for equal living conditions for all people and provides impetus for social policy.
As a state association and as a large welfare association, the Diaconal Association Bremen eV represents the interests of the people for whom its services and facilities operate, vis-à-vis parliament and government as well as in the public sphere.
Our members
The member institutions of Diakonie Bremen are active in all areas of social work, including elderly care, disability care, child and youth care, homeless care and healthcare.
Projects
We coordinate and promote various projects in Bremen that, for example, work towards integration or against the housing shortage.
