District: Blumenthal

Blumenthal Documentation and Cultural Centre

We are a vibrant cultural and documentation center where art, culture, education and history all find a place together.

The house thrives on encounters between generations and cultures. The DOKU is open to everyone.

Through a wide range of offerings from DOKU and its cooperation partners, children and adults have the opportunity to express themselves artistically and creatively at low cost.

The DOKU is run by a non-profit association (Stadtteilgeschichtliches Dokumentationszentrum Blumenthal e.V.), which, among other things, promotes cultural education in the district and has been collecting local history in its own archive for over 30 years. Over the years, the building has developed into a vibrant meeting place for all generations, who have all contributed to shaping the space in their own way and adapting it to the needs of the district.

Three pillars support our house: experiencing, learning, and remembering.

Experience:
DOKU regularly hosts readings, discussion cafés and concerts, showcases and various exhibitions.

Learn more:
For those who would like to get actively involved, there are opportunities for young and old in the areas of music, dance, theatre, art and sustainability.

Remember:
The Documentation Center (DOKU) has existed for over 30 years and has actively shaped the neighborhood ever since. History remains a crucial pillar of our identity. Founded in 1988 by the association "Stadtteilgeschichtliches Dokumentationszentrum Blumenthal eV" (Blumenthal Neighborhood History Documentation Center), DOKU Blumenthal initially focused primarily on the history of the district, preserving everything ever said, written, or photographed here in Blumenthal, in accordance with cultural and educational policy principles. The very first idea was to convey "history from below" and "local history" to young people in particular. Even today, the neighborhood archive offers a wealth of material to explore. We are currently in the process of reorganizing and digitizing the archive.
