District: Eastern Suburbs

BUND Bremen thrives on its active members, projects, and campaigns. They demonstrate a wealth of ideas, impressive commitment, and a diverse range of topics. In this way, we work together successfully for nature and environmental protection.

We are independent.
We stand up for people and nature! In cases of environmentally destructive interventions, we exercise our legal right to have a say, if necessary even in court. We act independently of political parties or corporations and their interests. In recent years, we have campaigned against the construction of an offshore terminal in the Weser tidal flats near Bremerhaven and continue to fight against the planned deepening of the Weser River, which would have serious ecological consequences. Furthermore, we raise awareness of our goals through regular actions and ensure that our demands are heard.

We are active locally as part
of the Bees and Flowers Working Group at Remertiring (BUND Bremen eV). We are committed to greater nature and environmental protection in Bremen and Bremerhaven. Our approximately 8,000 members and supporters are a strong advocate for nature. Many of them volunteer in our working groups and make an active contribution. We manage and maintain diverse nature reserves and protected landscapes and are involved in various projects for a cleaner, more sustainable Bremen. We have already supported many Bremen businesses in their transition to more environmentally friendly practices, for example, with company e-bikes, solar energy consultations, or tips on reducing plastic waste.

We provide impetus:
Ecology and economy don't have to be opposites! We demonstrate this with concrete projects on river restoration, renewable energies, resource conservation, and organic farming. For many years, we have been working with farms to improve the protection of meadow birds and to create habitats for insects in agriculture. We advise homeowners and housing associations on the protection of bats and birds that nest in buildings, and our water-saving surveys have already helped many institutions to significantly reduce their water consumption.

We make things smarter.
Through excursions, seminars, and lectures, as well as events, exhibitions, and online, we share our knowledge and make nature more accessible. Our guided tours allow interested individuals to discover Bremen's natural environment and its unique features. Lectures offer insights into how to actively contribute to environmental protection at home or in your own garden, and the newly planned insect garden at the Weser weir provides a firsthand experience of how insect conservation can work in the heart of the city. Furthermore, our website compiles a wealth of reliable information about animals, plants, and habitats.

Thanks to voluntary support in this area as well, we can offer almost all events free of charge, so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to participate.

We're thinking about the future.
We introduce children and young people – the adults of tomorrow – to nature and the environment; because you only protect what you know! In our environmental education program, we offer a diverse range of events, children's groups, and holiday camps. Here, too, we keep costs as low as possible so that all families have the opportunity to experience nature. With the children's wilderness area on the Weser Island, we not only maintain a wonderful venue for our own events, but also provide everyone with an opportunity to experience a bit of wilderness right in the heart of the city.

Young people and young adults up to the age of 27 can get involved in BUNDjugend and contribute to our work with their own events and ideas. Information and offers: BUNDjugend Bremen
