Bremen and Bremerhaven advice center for mobile workers and victims of labor exploitation
Are you from another European country and working in Germany? Do you have questions about your job and don't know where to turn?
As a result of intra-European labor migration, Bremen and Bremerhaven have increasingly become destinations for labor migrants; women and men who come to Germany for a limited period of time to pursue work here without giving up their foreign center of life.
These "mobile workers," who often work as seasonal laborers, posted migrant workers, or so-called bogus self-employed individuals, are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of labor exploitation. This is because the significant differences between living, working, and social conditions in the countries of origin of foreign migrant workers and in Germany often lead to a willingness to accept working conditions that fall below German standards.
Limited language skills, lack of knowledge about one's own legal situation, insufficient networking, low qualifications or particular emergencies are factors that can further exacerbate the difficult situation.
At the beginning of 2017, the Bremen and Bremerhaven Advice Center for Mobile Workers and Victims of Labor Exploitation, or MoBA for short, began its work. Two advisors provide information to foreign nationals seeking advice at trade union offices in Bremen and Bremerhaven, as well as through mobile outreach, on all aspects of employment.
The advice centers in Bremen and Bremerhaven offer:
Consultation at our advice centers, where possible at your location, by telephone or by email
- Information about your rights and obligations as an employee or self-employed person
- Information on working conditions, tariffs and rules of remuneration
- Support with contacts with offices, authorities and other institutions
- Consultation available in German, Bulgarian, English, Croatian, Polish, Serbian, Romanian, and Russian
(other languages are possible)
The advice center is affiliated with the educational association Arbeit und Leben (DGB/VHS) eV Bremen and is funded by the Senator for Economic Affairs, Labour and Ports with funds from the ESF.
