Accompanying life until the very end

Life – that is what it's all about at the Jona outpatient children's hospice, founded in 2006 by the Bremen-based Friedehorst Foundation.

To improve the lives of families with children suffering from a progressive or life-limiting illness. To improve the lives of children in families where a parent is seriously ill.

The families are accompanied by volunteer hospice workers who are prepared for this task in a special course.

The volunteer companions come to the families and provide support according to their wishes and needs: they relieve the parents in their everyday lives, are conversation partners for everyone, do things with the children or siblings, listen, are there and share the burden.

The full-time staff members of the children's hospice service are Monika Mörsch and Jutta Phipps. They are responsible for training the volunteers and for coordination.

Monika Mörsch is a nurse and has worked for many years in disability care with seriously ill children. She has furthered her qualifications for hospice work through additional training in palliative care.

Jutta Phipps holds a degree in social pedagogy. She also has additional training in palliative care. Jutta Phipps has professional experience as a lecturer in adult education and previously worked at the Friedehorst Vocational Training Center in the vocational rehabilitation of adults with mental illnesses.

About the Jona outpatient children's hospice service

The children's hospice service supports families

  • with a seriously ill or disabled child
  • in which a parent is critically ill

in their home environment.

We relieve parents of some of the burden of everyday life and create free time for them. We care for your children when you are ill. We accompany sick children and/or their siblings and spend time with them. We help with homework and do activities together.

We are available to talk to the entire family. Our support from trained volunteers can be accessed from the moment a diagnosis of any illness is made.

We support seriously ill children and their families in Bremen and the surrounding area. We accompany the children as part of our holiday program.

Our support and guidance are always free of charge.

Feel free to contact us. We're here to help.
