For queer refugees, (post-)migrants and BIPoC as well as parents and relatives from migrant/refugee families

The "Empowerment and Anti-Discrimination Counseling for Queer Refugees, (Post-)Migrants, and BIPoC in Bremen" is located at Theodor-Körner-Straße 1 in the Viertel district. The project is funded by the federal program "Democracy Live!". Refugees and LGBTIQ+ migrants frequently experience multiple forms of discrimination in their daily lives, including queerphobia and racism.

The advisory service provides support with:

  • Empowerment processes (dealing with one's own identities)
  • Experiences of discrimination in various areas and situations (anti-discrimination strategies)
  • queer education work (sexual orientation/gender identity and intersectionality)
  • Advisory and support services

Together with you, we can find solutions for your development processes and for problems that arise in everyday life.

Come by if you:

  • You need support to help yourself
  • Do you have questions about sexuality and relationships?
  • Do you have questions about queer or migrant identity/coming out?
  • You need accompaniment to appointments with authorities, lawyers or courts
  • Do you have questions about work and discrimination?

However, the consultation is also available if you simply want to talk or look around and are looking for connections to other offers.

Group empowerment

At the Queer Refugee Café, you can meet other people and connect with them. The café is open to queer BIPoC/refugees and offers not only a relaxed café atmosphere but also networking, mutual support, and understanding. Come by and check it out. The café takes place twice a month at the Rat&Tat Center.

For parents and relatives

For parents and relatives from migrant/refugee families, there are counseling services available that aim to facilitate the acceptance of the child's queer identity and serve to prevent violence and conflict through raising awareness

Self-help and empowerment

There is a queer BIPoC self-organization: "Queeraspora," which is active in civil society, cultural and educational policy for queer BIPoC/refugees. In a discrimination-free space, ideas are developed and tested together through exchange.

This led to the creation of independent dance groups, events, music shows, and exhibitions. To foster greater social participation, Queeraspora offers a space where intersectionality and empowerment are practiced. Together, this results in initiatives such as workshops/conferences, educational academies, awareness campaigns, information events, and advocacy.

If you would like to join, you can contact Queeraspora:

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
