  • Registration for childcare in the city of Bremen is done via the Bremen Kita Portal. There you can find information, select facilities, register online, and track the status of your application. The search function allows you to find a childcare center that meets your specific needs. You will need a child ID number, which you will automatically receive by mail before your child's first birthday.

  • If there are more applications than available places, the daycare center management must decide which children will receive a place. Legal selection criteria are taken into account. Priority is given based on proximity to the child's residence, if a sibling already attends the daycare center, or if the social services office certifies that daycare attendance is particularly urgent and important for the child's upbringing.

  • Many daycare options are free for children aged 3 and older. For nurseries and after-school care centers, costs depend on income, hours of care, and the specific program. The daycare portal and local advisory services provide information on fees and potential discounts.

  • The Bremen daycare portal offers a telephone hotline for questions about registration, finding a place, and technical issues: 0421 361-92000 (Mon + Thu 9 – 11 am and Tue + Wed 1:30 – 3:30 pm). In some districts, there are also advisory services available for daycare registration.

  • You can select additional facilities or adjust your placement preferences in the childcare portal. You can also contact the portal to discuss alternatives or temporary solutions.
