Violence

Violence can take many forms and often places a heavy burden on victims and their families. Support services for adults, children, and young people provide guidance and point to resources in the city of Bremen. They do not have to face this alone.

If you are affected, you can receive anonymous, competent, safe, and accessible advice at any time. Qualified female counselors will provide confidential support and, if needed, connect you with local support services, such as a women's counseling center or a women's shelter.

  • If you are a man experiencing violence, support and counseling services are also available to you. Violence can be physical, psychological, sexual, or digital – you don't have to face it alone. Even if it's difficult, seeking help is an important step. The Violence Against Men Helpline offers advice and support: 0800 12 39 900

  • If you experience violence as a queer person, there is support available in Bremen that addresses your specific situation. There are counseling services and specialized agencies that support and advise queer people – including those who have experienced violence. There, you can discuss your experiences in a safe and confidential environment and work together to determine what steps might be helpful.

  • Domestic and physical violence includes, for example, hitting, threats, or coercion within partnerships or families. Important: Violence takes many forms – it often doesn't begin with visible injuries. Threats and control are also forms of violence.
