Parenthood | Upbringing

Parenting can be wonderful, exhausting, and sometimes quite chaotic – often all at once. Many questions arise quite naturally: What's good for my child, what does our family need, and where can I get support? There are resources, courses, and programs that can help with everyday life.
A couple arguing.
  • In Bremen, there are free parenting and family counseling centers, family centers, and early intervention services. You can ask them anytime – even if you have minor concerns. It's best to make an appointment by phone with the counseling center in your area.

  • Sometimes talking to a neutral person can help. The counseling centers in your neighborhood can support you in finding new solutions and making everyday family life more relaxed.

  • For parents of babies and toddlers, there are early intervention centers, family midwives, family centers, and other counseling services that offer confidential support. There are also counseling services for parents with older children on a wide range of topics. You don't need to have a major "problem"—it's enough that you're looking for support and guidance in your daily family life.

  • Yes. Many family centers, community centers, and organizations offer parents' evenings, workshops, PEKiP (Prague Parent-Child Program), or parent-child classes. There are also specialized parenting courses or programs that provide intensive support for you and your family over a longer period. Some programs are free, others cost very little.

  • First, speak with the daycare center and/or make an appointment with your pediatrician. In Bremen, there are additional counseling and support services available if needed.

  • The parenting and family counseling centers can help you with issues such as interaction, communication or agreements – free of charge and neutrally.

  • The counseling centers for parents, teenagers, and children run by the Office for Social Services are neighborhood-based and free of charge. They support families facing a wide range of challenges – from learning and behavioral problems to parenting or family concerns. A team of social workers, educators, and psychologists provides confidential and anonymous counseling.
