State-approved pregnancy counseling center specializing in prenatal diagnostics

The Cara counseling center was founded as an association in 1990 and originated in the women's health movement. Cara was the first psychosocial counseling center for prenatal diagnostics in Germany. Since 2009, we have been part of the family and life counseling service of the Bremen Protestant Church.

Our work is based on the conviction that pregnant women are experts in their own lives. We want to accompany and support you on your personal journey through pregnancy. In addition to providing information and advice, we aim to contribute to a critical discussion about the effects and consequences of prenatal diagnostics. Through lectures, workshops, and public events, we actively participate in socio-political debates.

The Cara counseling center is funded by the state of Bremen. Despite public and church funding, our resources are very limited. We would be grateful if you would support our work with a donation.

Support and advice

As a pregnant person, you are legally entitled to advice on all matters relating to your pregnancy. This advice is free of charge, confidential, and can be provided anonymously upon request.

We are authorized to conduct the legally required counselling according to § 219 before an abortion and to issue a counselling certificate.

Consultants

We are a team of two consultants with different areas of expertise and many years of experience in pregnancy counseling. We are experts in prenatal diagnostics, a field that continually presents us with new challenges.

We ensure the quality of our work through regular supervision and ongoing professional development. This also includes cooperation and networking with doctors, hospitals, midwives, institutions, and self-help groups in the healthcare sector.

We provide information and advice independently of commercial interests.
