ChildrenPaCT Bremen

The Bremen Children's Palliative Care Team (KinderPaCT Bremen) supports children and adolescents with life-limiting, advanced illnesses and their families. The goal is to enable the young patients to have the best possible quality of life and to spend as much time as possible in their familiar home with their parents and siblings.

The multidisciplinary team consists of specially trained physicians, nurses, and psychosocial staff. Support can begin as early as the diagnosis stage, during the course of the illness, or at the end of life.

KinderPaCT offers specialized outpatient palliative care. This includes medical, nursing, and psychosocial support, as well as the treatment and relief of distressing symptoms such as pain. The team advises families on questions and concerns, supports them in managing daily life, and strives to avoid hospital stays whenever possible. The needs of siblings are also taken into account.

KinderPaCT also accompanies the affected families in the final phase of life and during the bereavement period.

In providing care, KinderPaCT works closely with pediatricians, general practitioners, therapists, and other support providers. Existing pediatric care continues. The specialized outpatient palliative care is financed by health insurance; long-term care benefits remain unaffected.

KinderPaCT Bremen is a collaboration between Bremer Hände and Klinikum Links der Weser in cooperation with the Eltern-Kind-Zentrum Prof. Hess.
