Outpatient clinic on the grounds of the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Bremen-East

The outpatient clinic aims to provide rapid, uncomplicated, and qualified support to children and adolescents up to the age of 18 and their families in the state of Bremen and the surrounding area when experiencing mental health problems and crises. The services of the child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinic and counseling center can be accessed particularly when existing support, counseling, and therapy have proven insufficient. In such cases, the clinic, under the supervision of a specialist physician, can offer a wide range of services. Close collaboration and coordination with physicians, psychologists, and psychotherapists, as well as with counseling centers, social service agencies, teachers, youth welfare institutions, and other relevant parties, is a matter of course. Involving the individual's living environment is also of particular importance; if necessary, support is provided through outreach services.

In every case, the individual support needs of the child or young person are the main focus.

Thanks to the close connection to the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with its differentiated and patient-oriented treatment options at the Bremen East Hospital, inpatient and day-clinic admissions can be well prepared if necessary.

Our offers:

  • Outpatient and child and adolescent psychiatric diagnostics and treatment with a multimodal approach
  • Crisis intervention
  • Clarification of the need for assistance and referral to day clinic, inpatient or outpatient psychotherapeutic treatment or referral to other necessary support measures
  • Psychiatric aftercare following (partial) inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric treatment
  • Outpatient group therapies
  • Parent counseling and family discussions
  • Music therapy services
  • Institute consulting
  • Assistance with reintegration into the social environment, school, education and employment

Various professional groups work together in all treatment teams. A high degree of continuity of responsibilities is ensured by the case manager.

Group Therapy:
The various group therapy programs, as part of the overall outpatient service concept, are specifically designed for children and adolescents who require more complex support. In these weekly groups, which are largely age-homogeneous, we work together with the children and adolescents, as well as with their parents or caregivers, to understand their various difficulties and develop solutions. When necessary, we network and collaborate with other relevant social networks (pediatricians, schools, youth services, etc.).

Multifamily therapy for school avoiders:
Separation anxiety, avoidance, social anxiety, withdrawal tendencies, distorted family structures and psychological impairments often characterize families with school-avoidant children and adolescents.

The multi-family therapy method developed in London by Eia Asen awakens self-healing powers and hopes within families and breaks the cycle of isolation and stigmatization.

In our outpatient clinic, six to eight families whose children or adolescents are registered for inpatient treatment meet every two weeks. While maintaining confidentiality, a supportive group process begins, incorporating creative methods (role-playing, painting, sculpture), which enhances the families' ability to reflect and mentalize, thus facilitating the inpatient treatment phase.
