The city is our garden!
Since June 2013, Lucie has been a garden for everyone and a place for action. It is a publicly accessible and always available experimental space for a vibrant neighborhood and a good life in the city.
Here, there is time and space for exchange and participation among people of different ages and backgrounds. The community garden creates a piece of nature in the city, where ecologically sustainable gardening is practiced, thus demonstrating alternatives to our resource-intensive consumer society.
Lucie invites people to rethink their approach, to become active themselves, and to advocate for sustainable and future-oriented urban development.
Our goals are local food production instead of global transport routes, participation and dialogue instead of social coldness, recycling and upcycling instead of a throwaway society, and the promotion of biodiversity and adaptation to climate change through urban green spaces.
All of this is done on a non-commercial basis, open to everyone, and through neighborly self-organization from idea to implementation.
The Lucies
"Ab geht die Lucie" (Let's go, Lucie) was born from the idea and commitment of some neighbors: us Lucies. The Lucies are the urban gardeners who take care not only of the garden itself, but also of the organizational matters surrounding it.
We are a core group of 10-20 volunteers who contribute varying amounts of time depending on their availability, averaging about 2-4 hours each week. Our ages range from our early 20s to our late 60s.
To provide the city, authorities, and foundations with a single point of contact, we founded the non-profit association KulturPflanzen eV in 2013. The association's headquarters are located at Grünenstraße 17, 28199 Bremen.
Offers
Kids & Co
At Lucie, children and young people have the opportunity to understand the production of staple foods and the associated labor involved. Participation in our events makes ecological connections understandable and leads to a more appreciative approach to food and the participants' immediate living environment.
Through our practical events and the associated exploration of diverse ecological topics, participants develop a connection to nature that can be applied to their everyday lives. This fosters interest in our environment, promotes environmental knowledge, and makes nature conservation, environmental protection, and sustainability a natural part of our lives.
Offers for groups / school classes / kindergartens
Environmental education programs on the Lucie for groups can be individually tailored to specific topics and adapted to the requirements of kindergarten, primary school and secondary schools or to the group of multipliers.
Naturally, our programs can also be integrated into the regular curriculum of all-day schools. Good communication beforehand and close collaboration with teachers are important to us, ensuring that each event is tailored to the group and their current curriculum topics.
Through regular as well as one-off visits by classes of all ages, teaching priorities can be deepened and initial experiences with managing a garden can be gained.
Further information is available at For questions regarding environmental education programs, please contact Julia Völkle.
Children's birthdays
We also organize exciting children's birthday parties on our premises or in nearby parks. An organized children's birthday party lasts 3 hours and costs €95. Treasures or campfire bread are brought by the birthday family.

Flea market and garden café
During the gardening season, i.e., from our season opening in spring until October, a flea market takes place on the Lucie grounds every last Sunday of the month. Enjoy browsing and the garden while listening to pleasant music.
Setup for stalls begins at 10:00 AM, browsing is possible from 11:00 AM. Stall registration is not required. Tables, weather protection, etc. must be brought by the stallholders themselves.
We don't charge a stall fee, but we would be very grateful for (preferably vegan) cake donations for the garden café! The café's proceeds help us cover our running costs for water, insurance, etc.
