Child and adolescent psychiatry, psychotherapy, social psychiatry
We see our patients as individuals in their specific environment (family, friend, school, neighborhood) with very personal interests, wishes and abilities.
When deep-seated problems cannot be resolved by the individual or within the family, then "symptoms" (e.g., stomach aches) or disorders (e.g., an eating disorder) arise. We assume that every symptom expresses a difficulty in coping with oneself or with the environment.
Therefore, we will try to explore with you the reason or even the meaning of these symptoms.
To achieve this, we try to view our patients and their families from different perspectives and develop recommendations and treatments tailored to each individual case.
This approach distinguishes us from other medical fields where a specific diagnosis necessitates a fixed treatment regimen.
As a child and adolescent psychiatric practice, we are here for children and adolescents in difficult life situations who require comprehensive support. This can include not only medical/psychotherapeutic measures, but also a variety of therapeutic and educational services that we can access both within and outside of our practice.
Our social psychiatry team consists of 4 physicians, 10 therapists, and 2 medical assistants. Outside of the practice, we collaborate with pediatricians, child and adolescent psychotherapists, and practices for occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy.
We doctors exchange information with all treating therapists in regular case conferences, either one-on-one or with the entire team. If necessary and appropriate, the doctors and therapists contact the kindergarten, school, and after-school care program after obtaining a release from confidentiality from the parents.
Our aim is to apply what we have understood about our patients' problems in diagnostics and therapy to their benefit when addressing questions of handling, care and support.
In some cases, advice and exchange also takes place with foster parents, youth welfare agencies or the youth welfare office, provided that the legal guardians agree.
