The University of Bremen is a medium-sized German university with around 20,000 students.
Bremen offers a wide range of subjects for dedicated and talented students: over 100 Master's and Bachelor's degree programs as well as the state law examination.
And with research-based learning, the university has reinterpreted project-based learning, a distinctive feature from its founding days. 2,500 researchers (41%), including 270 professors (29% women), teach and conduct research across a broad range of disciplines.
In the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, and teacher education, the University of Bremen has long focused on interdisciplinary collaboration and excellent research. In 2012, Bremen was one of eleven universities to be awarded the title of University of Excellence with its future-oriented concept "Ambitious and Agile".
The future challenges facing today's societies are addressed in six interdisciplinary research areas: the oceans and the global climate, the future of industrial production, the social conflicts of modern welfare states, the interfaces between digital technology and humans, the logistics of global trade flows, and justice in healthcare.
The university values diversity, has always fostered unconventional ideas and the independence of its early career researchers, and takes its social responsibility seriously. It is often the first to embrace new approaches: Founded as a reform university, we live and breathe change.
The university has a long-standing and trusting partnership with the non-university research institutes located at the site – including 11 jointly funded by the federal and state governments. This is evidenced by more than 50 joint professorships.
Our vision: Bremen as a leading European research university and an inspiring place of learning. To achieve this, we rely on our strengths, the potential of all university members, and trusting cooperation with our partners.
With the participation of staff and students, the university's vision, mission, and goals for the coming decade were developed. Based on this, the Academic Senate of the University of Bremen adopted the 2018–2028 strategy in December 2017.
