What exactly does the Bremen State Agency for Civic Education do?
Thinking along, educating, informing, enabling political education
The State Agency for Civic Education's mission is to inform the public about politics, encourage critical thinking and participation, and contribute to strengthening our democracy. As a state agency, our work is non-partisan, politically neutral, and independent. We are active at our locations in Bremen-City, the "Denkort Bunker Valentin" memorial site in Bremen-Farge, and Bremerhaven, serving all our target groups and all citizens of the State of Bremen.
Through our projects, events, and publications, we aim to provide information and political education. To this end, we collaborate with numerous other organizations involved in political education, bring networks together, and support the political education landscape in the state of Bremen. We see ourselves as an active part of civil society in the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven.
The state centers were established in each federal state by a decision of the state premiers of the German states in February 1954; since 1963 they have been called "State Center for Political Education".
The projects we are responsible for are part of the special profile of the State Agency for Civic Education in Bremen: The “Bunker Valentin Memorial Site”, established and operated by the State Agency, and the event program for January 27th/Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism represent the program of remembrance politics and the importance of historical responsibility for today's democracy.
With competitions like "No Chance for Hate" and the state coordination "School without Racism - School with Courage", we are specifically focusing on younger people.
Through the “Election-o-Mat”, the “Junior Election” and other offers, we strive to increase voter turnout.
Our publication and all other programs, formats, study trips and events are dedicated to promoting democracy, European integration and encouraging political participation.
