District: Findorff, Mitte, Vegesack

The Bremen Music School was founded in 1948.

With a diverse range of courses on almost all instruments – string and plucked instruments, wind and percussion instruments, keyboard and bellows instruments, as well as vocal lessons – the Bremen Music School warmly welcomes beginners, advanced students, and those returning to music of all ages! Courses for children aged 2 to 6, some involving a parent, offer a child-friendly environment for development and initial musical experiences.

In addition to instrumental lessons, there are numerous ensembles, bands, orchestras and choirs, and the diverse range of offerings includes chamber music in various formations, music theory, band training, as well as further education courses and workshops for music school teachers and interested parties.

Furthermore, interesting projects are being developed and new models devised to introduce children, young people, and adults to music. Examples include the successful establishment of wind and string classes, the "Culture Makes You Strong. Alliances for Education" projects at general education schools, new ensemble and supplementary subjects, and the instrument carousel.

The youth symphony orchestra's annual concert tours take them to European and non-European countries. The concerts often take place as part of international music festivals and are broadcast on radio and television.

Currently, 114 experienced and dedicated music teachers instruct approximately 2,700 students at various locations throughout Bremen – including Bremen-North. With around 200 events annually, the music school reaches about 90,000 listeners.

These include concerts by the music school's youth symphony orchestras, such as "Music and Light at Hollersee," concerts in cooperation with the Bremen Children's and Youth Choir, the Bremen Cathedral Girls' Choir, and the Bremen Philharmonic, performances by the Bremen International Youth Symphony Orchestra with around 130 highly talented young musicians from 20 European and non-European countries, the many district, class, and department concerts, the concerts during Bremen Music School Week, and the weekly radio program "Quodlibet" (Fridays 11:05 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Radio Weser.TV).

Since 2013, the Bremen Music School has been a certified “Healthy Music School”: through appropriate training and further education of the staff in conjunction with the Freiburg Institute for Musicians' Medicine, Kapfenburg Castle and the Techniker Krankenkasse, health-relevant considerations and exercises are integrated into instrumental lessons.

As a member of the Association of German Music Schools (VdM), we represent the guiding principles of public music schools, which reflect the goals and tasks of music schools as well as their commitment to quality and continuity.
