District: Schwachhausen

Catchment area: Neu-Schwachhausen, Riensberg, Radio Bremen

We advise and support elderly people, people with chronic illnesses, people with disabilities, and their relatives in their local community. To this end, we recruit and place volunteers and support them in their work.

There are a total of 17 service centers in the city of Bremen. These central contact points for elderly people, people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, as well as for volunteer-organized neighborhood support, have existed for more than 40 years.

They are run by welfare organizations and funded by the Senator for Social Affairs. Their mission is to provide independent information and advice to people in need of support and their families. The DLZs collaborate with other organizations to represent the needs of older people, people with disabilities, and people with chronic illnesses.

In addition to providing information and advice, the service centers connect people with volunteers for organized neighborhood assistance. Approximately 3,000 volunteers are involved in neighborhood assistance in Bremen.

The Bremen service centers are operated by welfare associations and funded by the city of Bremen.
