District: Mitte

The Bremen and Bremerhaven Violence Prevention Unit is a victim protection institution whose support services are aimed at those accused and perpetrators of physical and sexual violence.

We support children, adolescents, and adults who no longer wish to be violent. We offer our services to individuals seeking our help, as well as to authorities, courts, and other counseling centers or residential facilities.

The goals of our work are to prevent recidivism and to enable individuals to take responsibility for their actions. Equally important to us is supporting the protection and recovery of those currently affected.

In doing so, we show perpetrators of violence alternative courses of action and offer them support and help in crises and problem situations.

We also work with people who initially do not come to us voluntarily (e.g., within the framework of protective orders, in the case of a criminal complaint, on the instructions of a court, or under pressure from a partner or family).

Our services for clients are aimed at

  • People who treat their partner violently at home or after a separation (“Domestic Violence”)
  • Young people who have become physically violent
  • Adults and adolescents who are about to commit a sexual offense
  • Adults and young people who have already committed a sexual offense
  • Consumers of abuse images (so-called “child and youth pornography”)
  • Children (6-13 years) who behave in a sexually transgressive manner
  • People who are accused of having committed a sexual offense

Consultations can be conducted in German or English . For those seeking help who live far from Bremen, consultations can be conducted online (we will gladly provide you with further details).

The center does not provide psychiatric or psychotherapeutic treatment. People with a need for therapeutic treatment cannot be treated at the center.

Costs:
The specialist agency for violence prevention GmbH receives no public funding.

Adults must therefore generally pay for the treatment themselves. The rate for a consultation or therapy session is €80.00.

For recipients of benefits under the Social Code (e.g., ALG II recipients, people with intellectual disabilities), we assist in applying for reimbursement of costs by the social welfare offices.

Services for children and young people can be billed via the Child and Youth Welfare Act (KJHG § 27a) (individual case agreements).

Duration:
The scope of our support depends on the specific problems and the client's cooperation. It typically lasts 6 to 18 months. Appointments usually take place once a week.
