Child and youth welfare

St. Theresienhaus was founded in 1927 by the Catholic Welfare Association of Bremen. Its eventful history is largely characterized by the fact that the type and scope of support offered to young people have been adapted to societal changes.

St. Theresienhaus has thus evolved from a small infant home into an innovative and modern child and youth welfare institution. Its current inpatient, day-care, and outpatient services for children, adolescents, young adults, and families reflect contemporary life circumstances.

Our educational approach is based on a Christian-humanistic worldview and understanding of humanity. We believe that people possess creative powers that enable them to develop themselves. Interpersonal relationships and social responsibility are essential for mental health and self-realization.

We carefully strive to foster this development in children, young people, and their families, and to initiate a process of resocialization. We believe it is essential to provide affected individuals with a place in society that enables them to participate socially and culturally, and promotes responsible coexistence and tolerance.

St. Theresienhaus offers support services and new perspectives to children, young people, and their families, also in light of changing societal demands. The child and youth welfare services provided under the German Social Code, Book VIII (SGB VIII), are comprised of residential, day-care, and outpatient programs.
