Neighborhood parents help families with applications, accompany them to authorities, and inform them about services in the neighborhood, such as sports clubs, parent counseling, early intervention programs, doctors' offices, and much more.
The Bremen Neighborhood Parents project supports families in Bremen through individual counseling and collaborative partnerships. Its goal is to break down barriers, open up social and professional opportunities, and strengthen families sustainably.
The aim of the project is to strengthen parents and families, to sustainably stabilize their living situation, to overcome social obstacles and to develop long-term career prospects.
We support families with individual advice and assistance to promote their family and social resources and to create a basis for the professional integration of the parents.
Another focus is on opening up access to further education and training opportunities for parents, in order to show them new career opportunities and perspectives.
The neighborhood parents are parents who use their own experiences and language skills to support other families. This fosters trusting relationships. The neighborhood parents act as bridges between the families and the social workers who provide guidance within the project.
The neighborhood parent volunteers relieve the burden on many professionals in the area through their work. They accompany families to government offices, provide information about social and educational services in the neighborhood, such as sports clubs, parent counseling, early intervention programs, the city library, pediatricians' offices, and playgrounds. They also assist with applications for social benefits and with formalities, such as registering for daycare.
The offer is aimed at parents, especially:
- Families/parents with children who receive benefits under the German Social Code Book II (SGB II) or Book XII (SGB XII) (including supplementary or additional benefits)
- Families who receive or are entitled to child benefit supplement or, in the future, basic child support
