The specialist outpatient clinic for addiction prevention and rehabilitation of the Caritas Association Bremen e. V. offers the first counselling center in Bremen specifically focused on eating disorders.

Food, body, feelings: Are you uncomfortable with your eating habits? Are you worried about your weight, your body – or about a friend? Eating disorders can develop gradually and are often difficult to recognize. But: You are not alone. We support you free of charge, confidentially, and as equals. Together we will find out which path is right for you. The counseling is free of charge.

The offer is being funded by the German Television Lottery for three years – with a total of more than 255,000 euros.

We distinguish between:

  • Anorexia / Anorexia nervosa (eating very little, wanting to lose a lot of weight, great fear of gaining weight)
  • Bulimia / binge-purge disorder (binge eating followed by vomiting or excessive exercise) and
  • Binge eating (recurring episodes of overeating without compensation, often accompanied by shame or guilt).

First signs:

  • Severely restricted eating or constant dieting
  • Cravings accompanied by feelings of guilt
  • Eating for stress management or self-regulation
  • Vomiting, fasting, or laxatives for weight control
  • Dissatisfaction with one's own body
  • Social isolation surrounding food

Our range:

  • Individual counselling: for young people (from 14 years of age) and adults – anonymous, in person or online
  • Advice for family members, friends, educators and other caregivers: if you are worried
  • Networking with other specialist agencies in Bremen: We have contacts with specialized agencies and can support you in finding a suitable therapy.
  • Self-help group: Exchange and support for relatives
  • Information and events: for those affected, schools, associations and multipliers
