Holistic breastfeeding counseling is counseling that also takes into account the baby's history with its parents, including the pregnancy, birth, and the start of life.
Often, it is unresolved issues that overwhelmed a child or the parents on a psychological and emotional level in the past that can still cause physical tension, making it almost impossible for the baby to settle into a relaxed breastfeeding position. Or they can make it nearly impossible for the mother to hold the baby close to her body or even to enjoy this shared closeness. Bottle-fed babies also often exhibit behaviors that make it significantly more difficult to provide the same level of physical closeness during feeding as with a breastfed baby. Bottle-fed babies often swallow a lot of air and/or drink very quickly. Due to this significant physical tension, many babies also spit up more frequently than others or have more frequent hiccups.
By incorporating "Integrative Baby Therapy" and "Emotional First Aid," many of these tensions can be resolved by having the parents, together with me, examine their child's story through the expression of their child's body language and gain a different understanding and perspective on their child, which can significantly relax the overall situation and create a more relaxed parent-child atmosphere, which also eases the feeding situation.
