If you have a low income, you can apply for housing benefit to help with your housing costs. Housing benefit is intended to enable you to afford adequate and family-friendly housing.
You can apply for housing benefit as:
- Rent subsidy for tenants
- Subtenants of living space
- for residents of a care home
- Residents of care facilities within the meaning of the respective state law also include people with disabilities who are admitted to special forms of accommodation on a non-temporary basis for the purpose of providing integration assistance.
- Burden subsidy
- for owners of a house or apartment
You are not entitled to housing benefitif your accommodation costs are already covered by other social benefits, such as:
- Citizen's income
- Basic income support for the elderly
- in case of reduced earning capacity
- Benefits for living expenses
- other transfer services that take your accommodation costs into account
Housing Benefit Plus
Housing Benefit Plus is intended to support low-income individuals who have to pay rent or mortgage payments on their own property. This primarily includes families, single parents, and senior citizens. It aims to provide relief to people whose income is just above the basic social security threshold.
Those who live in rented accommodation receive housing benefit as a rent subsidy, while those who live in a condominium receive a so-called burden subsidy.
