The Night of Youth commemorates the victims of Kristallnacht on November 9, 1938, and remembers the crimes of National Socialism. The Night of Youth aims to prevent such crimes from ever being committed again and to shape a humane and cosmopolitan future.

Under the guiding principle "Our future has history", the Night of Youth enables young people to engage with history in a new way through artistic, musical, sporting and cultural contributions, and to publicly and collectively commit themselves to respect, responsibility, solidarity and civic courage and an inclusive society.

The Night of Youth is positioning itself…

…against all forms of misanthropy: antisemitism, anti-Muslim racism, antigypsyism/racism against Sinti and Roma, ableism, discrimination against LGBTIQ+ people, and nationalism. You matter! The Night of Youth wants to stand up against your personal form of discrimination, even if it is not listed here. The Night of Youth offers young people a space to address their issues from history or the present and to shape the future together democratically. It enables active exchange about racism, discrimination, social (in)justice, environmental destruction, and current events. All participants choose the format themselves, for example, with discussions, music, theater, dance, readings, exhibitions, art projects, …

The Night of Youth strengthens…

…Democracy and social cohesion in Bremen, civic courage, recognition, children's and youth rights, and the ability to deal with contradictions, culturally based differences, or ambiguous information. The Night of Youth calls upon artists, participants, and organizers to engage in open discussions of controversial topics and to show mutual respect. The Night of Youth offers the opportunity to get involved and effect change. It sends a message against indifference and exclusion.

The Night of Youth creates encounters…

Eyewitnesses to history share their experiences. Young and old present their contributions, projects, and initiatives, all of which demonstrate their commitment to combating exclusion, discrimination, and violence. The Night of Youth fosters mutual understanding, raises political awareness, promotes networking, and encourages the development of new projects.

The night of youth lives on…

…from the tremendous commitment of those involved in youth, migrant, and cultural organizations, as well as schools, religious communities, and individuals. It offers a stage for artists of all styles, from classical music to hip-hop, dance theater to poetry slam, who express the values that the Night of Youth represents through their art. The organizers, artists, speakers, and project leaders invest their time and energy on a voluntary basis, thus ensuring the continuation of the Night of Youth. Every voice counts.
