RAUSZEIT is a recreational program for children and families where one parent is incarcerated. This project, run by the Bremen State Coordination Office for Children of Incarcerated Parents at hoppenbank e. V., provides shared breaks from everyday life and creates space for enjoyable experiences, social interaction, and quality family time.
The program is aimed at children with an incarcerated parent and their caregivers outside the correctional facility. These include, for example, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and other relatives. If certain privileges, such as temporary release or furloughs, are available, incarcerated parents can also participate in the activities. Some programs also bring together children and families who are affected by incarceration and those who are not.
RAUSZEIT organizes a variety of leisure activities in Bremen and the surrounding area. These include sports and exercise, excursions into nature, visits to museums and other leisure facilities, as well as communal breakfasts with time for conversation, eating, and games. The composition of the group may vary depending on the activity.
The focus is on shared experiences, strengthening family relationships, and carefree time away from the often stressful everyday routine. At the same time, the activities offer children and family members opportunities for exchange and interaction.
The recreational activities usually take place once a month, mostly on weekends. Participation is generally free of charge. Current dates and registration information are available directly from RAUSZEIT. Inquiries will be treated confidentially.
