Hello, we are Wiebke Buscher and Anna Tibert from Eltern PLUS. Our work is to support families and expectant parents who use drugs or are on substitution therapy.
Sounds strange? It's not at all!
Of course, people with addiction problems also become parents. It doesn't matter whether it's legal alcohol or illegal drugs like THC, cocaine, or heroin. We don't judge anyone based on their substance use; we treat everyone with respect and on equal terms.
Parents PLUS is located at the train station, right where a lot of addiction-related activities take place. We work within the Comeback GmbH drug counseling center at the Tivoli. There, we have the opportunity to talk to you in peace and quiet, and you can also bring your children. The Parents PLUS office is located a little away from the main counseling center, so you won't have any contact with the drug scene.
Finding the best solution
Together with our clients, we always try to find the best solution for everyone; that is, the best solution for you and your children. Your child's well-being is our top priority. Many of you are already dealing with the youth welfare office; we also work with them and can, for example, help you explain the issue of addiction to them.
We can also work with you to find effective solutions to tackle your addiction problem. Detoxification, substitution therapy, treatment, or self-help – all of these can be good options. Every child has the right to grow up with healthy parents, and we are happy to support you on this path!
Even if you're not currently living with your child, we can support you in changing that. Furthermore, we can work together to determine when and if living together can work well.
If you're a woman who has just found out you're pregnant and doesn't know what to do, you've come to the right place. Let's work together to find the right path for you or for you as parents. Even if your pregnancy wasn't planned and you're feeling overwhelmed at first, it's not impossible to find a good way forward.
You don't dare?
We've been doing this work for several years now and have experienced quite a lot. You don't need to be embarrassed about anything with us, especially not about your substance use. We are both experienced drug counselors and have also been doing street outreach for years. We understand addiction and everything that comes with it. Above all, we know that addiction is an illness and that those affected usually need help.
There's no right or wrong here; just talk to us and we'll see what can be done together. It's very important to us that we don't act without your input. We'll discuss every step with you.
