Association of Bremen children's groups

The Bremen Children's Groups Association is the umbrella organization for daycare centers run by parent associations in Bremen. It offers more than 3,700 childcare places in the crèche, kindergarten, and after-school care sectors.

The daycare centers run by parent associations are independent operators of their facilities and are affiliated with the network as an umbrella organization. This network supports the facilities by providing advice on organizational and pedagogical issues, offering volunteers for a year of social service (FSJ) and federal voluntary service (BFD), and handling personnel administration and accounting for a fee.

The network connects the institutions and represents them in political bodies. It was founded in October 1987 by parents and supporters who lacked childcare options for children under three and wanted to create such a service. Following the motto "Children need children," the network provided children with regular play and social interaction in groups to promote their development. More and more daycare centers run by parent associations were established.

The advisory center was opened in 1990, providing guidance to parents on all aspects of childcare in Bremen and supporting parent-run childcare centers with organizational and pedagogical matters. Throughout the years, the network has remained true to its guiding principle of "growing up together" and has steadily increased the number of member associations.
