BPW Germany was founded in Berlin in 1931 as the German Association of Professional Women (dvbf) and is today one of the largest women's networks with members in over 100 countries worldwide. BPW Germany has been a member of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW), headquartered in London, since its inception.

In 1933, the German association dissolved under pressure from the political situation.
The national association was reconstituted in 1951. Seven clubs founded the Club of Professional Women in the spring of 1951.

From the mid-1970s, it operated under the name German Association of Professional Women (DVBF) and since 1998 under the name Business and Professional Women Germany. Among the founding clubs, besides Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, and Munich, was the Bremen club.

In the Bremen club, you'll find dedicated women from various professions and industries: employees, entrepreneurs, and freelancers – from those just starting their careers to experienced professionals. We are cross-professional and welcome all women who wish to get involved in the national or international BPW network.

Local and national networking means:

  • More women in leadership positions in business and politics
  • more qualified jobs for women
  • Better work-life balance for women and men
  • More mandatory insurance coverage for women
  • more female influence in political decisions
  • worldwide cooperation, friendship and understanding between women in professional and business
  • Further expansion and maintenance of local, national and international networks

The goals of BPW Germany are:

  • Supporting and promoting working women in all areas of life
  • Giving and receiving new ideas, suggestions and impulses
  • a forum for professional exchange of ideas and experiences
  • Shaping local women's issues
  • Make new personal and business contacts
  • Access to a diverse range of professions and experiences
  • exchange of experiences regardless of age

For us, international networking means:

  • Advisory status No. 1 as an NGO (non-governmental organization) with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
  • consultative participation in the UN bodies UNESCO, UNIDO, UNCTAD, UNIFEM, WHO, UNICEF, FAO and IFAD;
to have a permanent representation at the UN in New York, Paris, Vienna and Geneva, as well as at the International Labour Office (ILO) in Geneva
  • Having a delegate at the European Women's Lobby (EWL) and a lobbyist at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg

All BPW member associations are networked worldwide to pursue political goals through joint statements and resolutions. The focus is on women's employment and gender equality.

Women from Bremen traditionally undertake tasks at the national and international level!
