The Bremen Home Foundation is more than just an operator of residential and nursing homes.
Our specialization in the field of elderly care, our concentration of operations in Bremen – but above all our organizational form as a foundation under private law – enable us to successfully advocate for the needs of older people on many levels.
A task we gladly undertake, as we see the Bremen Home Foundation as a foundation in and for the city.
Driving force of social networks:
In addition to our recognized work in elderly care, our goal as the Bremen Home Foundation is to make substantive and practical contributions to the further development of a socially just city. This is rooted in the conviction that, given the demographic trends in Germany, new concepts for life in old age are needed.
We therefore reject the establishment of further isolated nursing homes of the old structure. We advocate for a mix of outpatient and inpatient care with explicitly desired citizen participation.
This is expressed concretely in the establishment and support of local neighborhood networks, created and used by people of all generations and cultures – residents, friends, relatives, volunteers or neighbors from the neighborhood.
This approach clearly distinguishes the Bremen Home Foundation from the operating philosophies of many other providers of elderly care.
Steps on the path to a new community
- Collaboration: Each house of the Bremen Home Foundation cooperates with various institutions and facilities in its district.
- Supporting independence: Every home of the Bremen Home Foundation is guided by the common principle of "as little care institution as necessary, as much alternative form of living and care as possible".
- Creating choices: The Bremen Home Foundation is promoting the development of alternative forms of housing and care for older people, including shared living arrangements, assisted living communities and day care.
- Giving and taking: True to the motto "no location without kindergarten, adult education center or cultural association", the Bremen Home Foundation invests in collaborations that become visible in its homes.
- Promoting understanding: The Bremen Home Foundation supports intercultural openness and implements this, among other things, through culturally sensitive care and support that is oriented towards ethnic origin.
- Alleviating fears: The Bremen Home Foundation is working on an open approach to the topic of “death and dying”, as evidenced, for example, by the close cooperation with the Horn Hospice Association.
- Appreciating one another: The work of the Bremen Home Foundation is characterized by respectful interaction – with the residents of its homes, the people of the city, but also among themselves.
- Acting independently: The Bremen Home Foundation relies on committed employees whom it supports in a variety of ways – this includes regular training and further education opportunities as well as support with regard to reconciling work and family life, for example through the association “Family Alliance”.
- Being open to new things: The Bremen Home Foundation sees itself as a "learning organization" in which new ideas, initiatives and concepts are always in demand.
- Thinking about tomorrow today: Last but not least, the Bremen Home Foundation is committed to environmental protection and takes this into account, for example, by supplying all its houses with 100 percent green electricity.
