A multicultural center was created on the site of the old fire station 6, harmoniously combining living, care, education and local culture, and bringing together people of different age groups and population groups.
Here are apartments for assisted living, there are artists' studios and a kindergarten. Young people with disabilities and elderly Turkish migrants live in the community village. Adult education courses are held here, and the Bremen contact point for elderly migrants organizes meetings and seminars at the village. And the community village continues to grow. Construction of 21 additional apartments began in March 2016 and is now complete. The new day care center opened in September 2017.
Furthermore, a far-reaching network of cooperation links the home foundation with the associations "Kultur vor Ort" and "Kinder Leben"; the Bremen Central Care Center has set up a care support center.
The "café brand," organized by an employment initiative, provides refreshments and serves as a meeting point for tenants and the neighborhood. The former fire station's engine shed now also houses the Atelierhaus Roter Hahn (Red Rooster Studio House), managed by Kultur vor Ort eV (Culture on Site Association). Painters and designers create a stimulating environment here that encourages participation.
The Gröpelingen outreach center for senior citizens provides information and advice on meeting places and events in the neighborhood, as well as on all questions relating to the topic of “getting older in Gröpelingen”.
In the former hose tower of the "old fire station" on the grounds of the Gröpelingen foundation village, a place of help for self-help is being created.
The BHS, the ZIS and the WaBeQ would like to develop a service here for German senior citizens and migrants who have their center of life in Germany.
And: Right on your doorstep, life pulsates in the shops, restaurants and cafes of the lively Gröpelingen district.
This is what makes the Gröpelingen Foundation Village stand out:
- Shopping facilities nearby
- Parking spaces/garages
- shared apartment
- Self-help creative workshop
