This is how the “Budget for Work” helps
People with disabilities receive a very special offer from the state, called the "Budget for Work".
This allows them to work on the general job market and earn money themselves.
The money that normally goes to the workshop for disabled people is being diverted elsewhere.
It goes directly to the employer and also covers the costs of instruction and support in the workplace.
What is special about the "Budget for Work"?
The "Budget for Work" gives people with disabilities more opportunities to find their own jobs.
They earn their own money.
You will receive help with the onboarding process at your new workplace.
If the workplace needs to be specially equipped for her, the government will pay for it. If the new job turns out not to be the right fit in the long run, it's possible to return to the sheltered workshop.
How to get the “budget for work”
To receive funding for a job through the "Budget for Work", you must submit an application to the office.
But that's only possible once you've found a new job.
The office (in Bremen the "Fachdienst Teilhabe") needs some time to review the application.
Therefore, it should be submitted early enough. The application includes a preliminary employment contract, which the prospective employer signs.
Once the office has reviewed your application and you receive a positive decision, you can sign the employment contract.
What you need to take care of is your pension.
The workshop has special regulations that differ from the budget for work.

What do employers gain from the "budget for work"?
With the "Budget for Work" program, the state promotes an alternative to employment in a workshop for disabled people.
Those affected are employed in the general labor market and earn their own money.
It is a successful model that enriches the daily work routine in your company: with motivated new employees and through a changed culture of collaboration.
Furthermore, workplace inclusion leads to a positive external perception of your company.
For your commitment, you as an employer will receive a long-term subsidy towards wage costs, which can amount to up to 75 percent of gross income.
Additional support services are provided for the newly established workplace.
Furthermore, this may even be counted multiple times towards the employment quota for people with disabilities.
An offer that requires explanation
The "budget for work" is something very special.
Anyone who is allowed to work in a so-called workshop for disabled people (WfbM) has a legal right to employment.
The law also stipulates the status these persons must have: They must not be, not yet, or not again be available to the (general) labor market.
But what happens if these people with disabilities want to be employed in this general labor market?
To turn these into success stories, the responsible offices and authorities must work well together.
The rules for this cooperation have been rewritten in Bremen and enshrined in a framework directive.
