CITY 46 / Kommunalkino Bremen eV – more than a cinema
CITY 46/ Bremer Kommunalkino has been committed to film and cinema culture, film history, and film education since 1994. Two cinemas with 160 and 90 seats respectively, and a third flexible auditorium with windows and no fixed seating, offer affordable cinematic experiences.
Instead of Hollywood blockbusters, CITY 46 offers great cinema from around the world. Silent films accompanied live on the piano; stimulating experimental film evenings; chats with directors and exciting film discoveries from still unknown filmmakers; supporting programs in conjunction with the offerings of other cultural and educational institutions.
has been awarded to filmmakers for their contributions to European cinema Bremen Film Prize , endowed by the GUT FÜR BREMEN Foundation of the Sparkasse Bremen. Previous winners include directors and actors, as well as editors, cinematographers, and composers. Most recently, Caroline Champetier, Alberto Iglesias, and Ulrich Seidl were honored for their outstanding and unique work.
The International Bremen Symposium on Film, a long-standing collaboration between the University of Bremen and CITY 46, is known for its combination of academic lectures with a curated film program. Guests include internationally renowned researchers such as Raymond Bellour, Richard Dyer, Thomas Elsaesser, Laura Mulvey, Heide Schlüpmann, Janet Staiger, Christine Thompson, and others.
