State Agency for Civic Education – Valentin Bunker Memorial Site
The Bunker Valentin Memorial Site is a documentation and remembrance center that offers a space to engage with the history of the "Valentin" bunker and also develops programs for political education. Together with a group of freelance educators, we offer various visitor formats for young people and adults on the bunker grounds and in our seminar rooms.
The Bunker Valentin memorial site is a place of innovative educational approaches for conveying history and historical awareness. A wide range of programs has been developed for this purpose. These include various formats, from overview tours and thematic walks through the bunker and the former construction site, to self-guided tours, multi-hour project days and multi-day projects, and even international work camps.
The aim of all the offers is to give participants the opportunity to pursue their interests and to contribute their questions and thoughts to the discussion.
Confronting the history of National Socialism in the region and in Europe
Our multi-hour programs offer the opportunity for an in-depth exploration of the site and its history. A key component of every visit is a search for traces of the past in the accessible part of the bunker and its surrounding grounds. Using images, films, and biographical accounts, individual aspects of the complex topic of "forced labor under the Nazi regime" are explored and discussed together as a group.
With methodical guidance, participants can explore the origins of the construction site and the history of the place, and develop their own questions from different perspectives.
For organizational reasons, we recommend scheduling an appointment in advance. We also offer tours and projects in English, French, and Spanish.
Preparation and consultation
Prior knowledge of National Socialism is certainly helpful for a visit. However, we are also happy to accommodate visitors with little to no prior knowledge of the connection between war production and forced labor. We are happy to advise you on preparing for your visit.
