Girls' Center Gröpelingen

At the girls' center, girls and young women aged 12 and over can spend their free time in the afternoons and take advantage of educational and counselling services.

In November 2010, the neighborhood project “A place for girls in Gröpelingen” was launched, equipped with temporary office and functional spaces in the center of Gröpelingen.

The aim of the project is to establish a non-partisan recreational and educational facility for girls and young women aged twelve and older. The project was approved by the Gröpelingen Controlling Committee following a survey of young people and professionals regarding leisure and educational opportunities, and is funded by the Gröpelingen/Walle Social Center, Youth Social Services.

The association Mädchenhaus Bremen eV assumed sponsorship of the project. Mädchenhaus Bremen has many years of experience in youth welfare and works from a feminist and advocacy perspective for girls.

The educational work is based on the adaptation concept for neighborhood-based child and youth support. It is guided by a feminist, anti-racist, and culturally sensitive approach and places a strong emphasis on participatory processes.

Girls and young women can participate in the following programs:

• Exercise classes
• Creative and media offerings
• age-related group activities
• Participation groups
• Themed evenings
• Support in school and training
• Advice
• Excursions

Furthermore, the team develops suitable programs together with the girls, taking into account their interests and wishes.

In principle, all offers are free of charge. However, depending on the effort involved, there may be a fee for excursions, trips, and special events.

Monday – Friday: 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Wednesday open from 4 pm

Current offerings include open access, sports and creative activities, homework help, and advice on student loan applications, etc. The current program can be viewed on the website and on Instagram. Offers are regularly updated there, and projects and excursions are also announced.
