Services and support for people with traumatic brain injury and their relatives.

The understanding is growing that a traumatic brain injury – even a mild one – can have serious consequences.

While these effects can vary greatly, they all present challenges for those affected, their families, and colleagues. Even after a mild concussion, cognitive impairments are often observed.

With appropriate measures and tools, affected people can be helped to participate in social life and – depending on the individual situation – to master their job and everyday life.

Special attention should be paid to supporting children and young people who still have a large part of their school and professional career to master.

 We pursue three overarching objectives:

  • Help for people with traumatic brain injury and their relatives
  • Raising public awareness of the disease
  • Promoting civic engagement

There are three good reasons to get involved:

  • Public knowledge about this disease, which is not always clearly recognizable, is limited
  • Even a mild traumatic brain injury causes profound changes in the lives of affected individuals and their families
  • The club possesses a high level of expertise regarding traumatic brain injury and how to deal with it, thanks to its large number of active members

We support people with traumatic brain injury in their pursuit of independence and a self-determined life, as well as their need for social participation, and represent their interests and those of their relatives:

  • Outpatient living and care options in one's own home
  • Individual support in daily life and related daily life training
  • Offers to promote healthcare
  • School and vocational training and advisory services
  • Offers and assistance for meaningful leisure activities
  • Programs for the educational support, supervision and assistance of pupils, students, trainees and employees
  • Measures to promote civic engagement and improve understanding for people in need of help

Club organization

The association "Leben mit Schädelhirntrauma eV" (Living with Traumatic Brain Injury) is supported by numerous members who are committed to improving care and support for people with traumatic brain injuries. They all form the general assembly and from among themselves create working groups for current projects.
