The Bremen Public Health Department offers a wide range of advice and support services to promote and protect your health. Our services are designed to provide you with expert assistance in various life situations. Whether it concerns the health of children, adolescents, or adults, we are here for you. The experts at the Public Health Department perform their duties independently of economic interests. They work across disciplines and cooperate with various institutions and organizations.

As part of the public health service, the Bremen Health Department contributes to protecting and promoting the health of the population. The Health Department's responsibilities are wide-ranging.

The responsibilities of the public health department include, among other things…

  • the school entry examinations,
  • Travel medicine consultation including yellow fever vaccinations,
  • the implementation of vaccination campaigns,
  • Hygiene inspections,
  • medical examinations by public health officers,
  • the processing of notifiable infectious diseases,
  • the child and adolescent psychiatric consultation service,
  • the municipal health reporting as well as
  • Counseling on sexually transmitted infections.

These and other tasks are carried out by the three specialist departments of the Bremen Health Department :

Preventive healthcare is very important for everyone. We want to help you and your family stay healthy from the very beginning. On this page you will find lots of information about our various services.

Pregnancy and early childhood (up to 3 years)

  • Family midwives: Advice and support during pregnancy and the first year of life. 
  • TippTapp pre: A counselling service offered in two hospitals in Bremen. It is aimed at pregnant women and families shortly after the birth of their baby. 
  • TippTapp: A visiting program for families with babies in their first year. It's available in 48 districts of Bremen. 
  • Early Help Bremen: Services for pregnant women or for parents with children from 0 to 3 years old. 
  • Invitation office for early detection and early consultation: Invitation to the early detection examination U4-U9. 

Childhood, adolescence and young adulthood (5 to 20 years)

  • Child and adolescent health: Examinations (assessments) of children in infancy and school age 
  • Health in Schools: Health Professionals in Schools (GefaS) 
  • Mental health and addiction: Counseling and treatment for children and adolescents with mental health or addiction problems. 
  • School vaccinations: Vaccination programs at schools for children and adolescents
  • Dental health: Dental service for the dental health of children and adolescents.
