The daycare health specialists (KiG) support daycare centers in the state of Bremen in strengthening health and health literacy in everyday daycare life. The project, run by the Bremen Health Department, focuses on the places where children spend a large part of their day and connects health promotion with the specific needs of the facilities and families.
The program is aimed at children, parents, and childcare professionals in participating daycare centers. Eight daycare centers in the WiN (Children in the Neighborhood) areas of Bremen-East and Bremen-South, as well as four daycare centers in Bremerhaven, are participating. The selection takes into account the specific circumstances and needs of each local community.
KiG works in a participatory and institution-specific manner. Health topics and measures are selected jointly with the respective daycare center and adapted to the everyday lives of the children and families. Possible topics include movement and physical activity, healthy development with digital media, hygiene and infection control, language and language development, preventive check-ups, vaccinations, and a healthy daily routine.
The aim is to promote the health literacy of children, parents, and educators, to identify needs early on, and to make suitable services accessible. At the same time, health-promoting structures in daycare centers are to be further developed, and health promotion is to be networked and sustainably embedded within the local community.
The project runs from January 1, 2027 to June 30, 2030 and is being scientifically evaluated by Prognos AG.
