Through the online platform "Kita-Portal", parents and guardians can get an overview of available childcare options, search for a suitable place and register their child digitally for a childcare place.
The Bremen Childcare Portal is the city of Bremen's central online platform for organizing childcare. Parents can use the portal to search for and find information about childcare places for their children in nurseries, kindergartens, or after-school care centers. A key function of the portal is the digital application process for childcare places. Parents can register their child and select several preferred facilities. The applications are then forwarded to the respective childcare centers, which decide on the allocation of places.
Parents can filter daycare centers by criteria such as neighborhood, type of care, or age group and get an overview of available options. The daycare portal thus simplifies the administration and allocation of childcare places for families, providers, and authorities alike by digitally streamlining the registration and communication process. The information is available in the following languages: German, Arabic, Bulgarian, English, Polish, French, Russian, and Turkish.
For questions and further information regarding online registration, please contact the Parent Service at the Senator for Children and Education. You can also find further information and answers to frequently asked questions about online registration and the daycare portal in the help section (FAQ).
Background early childhood development
If your child is at least one year old, they have a legal right to early childhood education. Even younger children may be entitled to this if their parents cannot care for them themselves, for example, because both parents work. Early childhood education is provided by childminders and daycare centers (Kitas). These include nurseries, daycare centers, and after-school programs.
