The meerMINT cluster creates new, free leisure activities in STEM fields for children and young people aged 10 to 16 in Bremen and the surrounding area. MeerMINT is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
meerMINT is a project where we want to experience STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) together with children and young people aged 10 to 16 in Bremen and Bremerhaven. We want to tinker, program, research, experiment, and build things together. We'll show you where STEM is present in your everyday life and go on a discovery tour together to see all the exciting things you can do with it.
How and where can I participate?
At four locations in Bremen, the so-called meerMINT docks, there is a wide variety of activities for different age groups. These include individual events on specific topics, regular meetings, and constantly changing workshops and holiday programs.
And for those who want to do even more and delve deeper, we will develop in-depth programs in meerMINT that will take place regularly in the meerMINT clubs.
Important: All events are free for you!
Who can participate?
Children and young people as participants in the programs.
Adults are needed to provide support in the docks. Helping hands are always required, and anyone who would like to contribute ideas and their own STEM knowledge is warmly invited to participate.
What prior knowledge do I need?
It's important that you're curious and eager to explore, experiment, tinker, or craft with us. Or perhaps you have questions about something; if so, just bring them along and we'll see together if and how we can answer them.
All offers are designed so that all interested children and young people can participate without any special prior knowledge or expertise.
Our meerMINT docks
The four meerMINT Docks are located across Bremen and Bremerhaven:
- in Gröpelingen,
- in Vahr,
- in Grohn
- in the fishing port.
Each dock has something special to discover and each offers its own unique deals.
Why not check out the exciting offers at a dock near you? If you don't find anything that suits you, feel free to browse the other docks as well – you're sure to find something there!
If you would like to get to know us and the meerMINT project, please come to one of the open afternoons (Dock North, Dock East, Dock West).
For parents
Learning a musical instrument, trying out a sport, meeting up with friends in the afternoon: For many children and young people in Bremen and Bremerhaven, this is part of their leisure time. However, for those who would like to repair a toaster, program robots, develop their own cosmetics, or explore the causes and consequences of climate change in the afternoon or during school holidays, there are no corresponding opportunities.
If your child is curious and interested in tinkering, researching, and experimenting, feel free to drop by the Docks or contact us if you have any questions. We're happy to help.
That's what we want to change with meerMINT!
For partners:
The STEM world is diverse and an important part of our everyday lives. Many of us engage with STEM topics without even realizing it, and many of us have a little inventor and researcher inside us.
At meerMINT, we want to bring together all people who enjoy discovering, are curious about the unknown and want to exchange ideas with like-minded people, and experience exciting things and explore new things together.
We also want to open the doors and invite all those who work in the STEM field and are looking for exciting projects and great activities for children and young people into the Docks.
So if you are interested in researching and tinkering together with children and young people in meerMINT, or if you yourself work in the STEM field and would like to introduce your work to children and young people, or if you would like to create something new together with meerMINT, just drop by the Docks or get in touch with us.
We welcome all interested parties and have many ideas for collaborations and opportunities to support meerMINT. And perhaps meerMINT can also contribute to and support your ideas and activities.
The STEM cluster meerMINT, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, is a consortium of five partners: University of Bremen, Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH, M2C – Institute for Applied Media Research GmbH, PHÄNOMENTA Bremerhaven e. V. and Universum Managementgesellschaft mbH.
