Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Bremen-Mitte Hospital
The Social Pediatric Institute Bremen is part of the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine at Bremen-Mitte Hospital. This connection enables optimal medical diagnostics and treatment. It also works closely with all locations of the Parent-Child Center of Gesundheit Nord at Bremen-Links der Weser Hospital, Bremen-Nord Hospital, and with the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Bremen-Ost Hospital.
Furthermore, the Social Pediatric Institute collaborates with local physicians and the public health service. Over the years, it has developed strong partnerships with medical, psychological, social, and educational institutions, as well as therapeutic practices in Bremen and Lower Saxony. Within this network, the Social Pediatric Institute frequently assumes coordinating roles. It also maintains close contact with numerous self-help groups.
For whom?
The Social Pediatric Institute treats children and adolescents with developmental disorders and with impending or existing disabilities of any cause. These may be congenital, acquired, or only become apparent during the course of development. Treatment also includes addressing related social and psychological problems.
Social pediatrics, as an interdisciplinary field, brings together various aspects of pediatrics and adolescent medicine. It deals with the conditions for healthy development in children and adolescents, as well as their disorders and effects. It is closely linked to the following areas:
- Health promotion,
- Prevention,
- Rehabilitation,
- Health and nursing sciences.
What are Social Pediatric Centers?
Social pediatric centers are outpatient, interdisciplinary facilities. Their task is the long-term diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with disabilities, developmental disorders, chronic illnesses, or special health needs.
They support children, adolescents and their families through individual diagnostics, counselling, support, therapy, aftercare and rehabilitation within the framework of a holistic treatment concept.

Early detection center FEST
Do you live in Bremen? Is your child between the ages of zero and about to start school, and are you worried about their development? And does your pediatrician also believe that they need special developmental support?
If this applies, your pediatrician can register your child for a developmental assessment at our early intervention center (abbreviated: FEST). Here, we will determine whether your child requires both special education support and one or more medical-therapeutic therapies (e.g., speech therapy, physical therapy, or occupational therapy) to support their development. These services can then be provided as a comprehensive package by an interdisciplinary early intervention center, for example, at the daycare or kindergarten your child attends.
Register your child using our registration form, which is available at pediatricians' offices and can also be downloaded from our website. You will need a referral from your family doctor or pediatrician.
