Maternity clinic with Level 1 perinatal center

At the Bremen-Mitte hospital you will find six delivery rooms, all equipped with a birthing tub, a labor area with a heated bench, modern examination rooms and comfortable rooms – and our proven, competent obstetrics team.

We have all areas of pediatric medicine under one roof, ensuring quick access to support from our pediatricians should you require it. We do everything we can to ensure you can give birth to your child naturally and safely.

The birth of your child in our clinic – with the security of a well-equipped hospital and children's hospital in the background – can proceed as naturally as possible. With our holistic, family-oriented approach, we create a pleasant atmosphere and take the wishes of each expectant parent into account as much as possible. We deliver approximately 3,000 babies per year, which underscores the high quality and acceptance of our services.

Our care “around the time of birth” also extends to pregnancy and the first months after birth with a comprehensive range of courses, which we present to you under the “Parents’ School” button.

Level 1 Perinatal Center

This is the highest level of care. Only here should mothers be admitted – ideally even before birth – whose child is expected to be born before the 29th week of pregnancy or weighs less than 1,250 g, or who requires immediate intensive care, for example due to foreseeable malformations.

Level 1 centers have particularly high staffing requirements. In the state of Bremen, there is a Level 1 perinatal center at the Bremen-Mitte Hospital.

Inpatient care

Inpatient care and counseling is offered to all pregnant women, including those with high-risk pregnancies, during their stay at our clinic. I will be your reliable contact person throughout this time. Your needs are my priority. I am available on the wards and in the delivery room on weekdays. If you would like to speak with me, please call or inform the nursing staff.

Social service

It is often necessary to organize further support for the period following your hospital stay. Some steps should be taken while you are still in the hospital so that you can feel safe and empowered at home. Nothing will happen without your knowledge! Depending on your needs, discharge planning will be carried out in consultation with the children's hospital or the relevant authorities.

Obstetric consultations

Registration for birth:
All women who wish to give birth at the Prof. Hess Parent-Child Center must register for birth in the 30th week of pregnancy.

This gives you the opportunity to discuss your questions, wishes, and expectations with a midwife in a relaxed setting. We can then address any special circumstances of your pregnancy or medical history and provide you with the best possible care.
