Our vibrant neighborhood in the Osterholz district is home to a diverse range of people. Young families live here alongside older generations. Linguistic diversity and multilingualism are part of our daily lives, as many residents have migration backgrounds and connections to numerous countries. We particularly enjoy our large summer festival once a year. We have an above-average number of actively involved citizens in our community
Our local council, with its volunteer advisory board, is responsible for municipal policy work in the district. Topics include transportation, the environment and urban planning, education and culture, social issues, integration and sports, employment, and health. Residents can actively participate in shaping the district through the advisory board's committees. The district management team is committed to the further development of the Swiss Quarter. All interested residents can contribute, for example, through the public district forum. The district management team also supports district-based initiatives and networks.

Strong places for strong children and young people
The schools in the Swiss Quarter are popular – even beyond the neighborhood. There's the Ellenerbrookweg primary school, a Waldorf school, and the award-winning Bremen-East comprehensive school. There's also plenty for children and teenagers to do outdoors: the entire quarter boasts ten playgrounds as well as a multi-generational park with a ball court and a calisthenics park.
A central meeting point is the multi-generational center in Bremen's Swiss Quarter, which offers a variety of opportunities for exchange as well as leisure and educational activities. In addition to a sports club and an alcohol-free youth café with a skate park, there is also the German Red Cross (DRK) children's and youth center, which provides homework help and fitness training. Young people are actively involved in shaping the Swiss Quarter through the Osterholz Youth Council. The Pollsdamm playground is currently being redesigned.
Life in neighborhoods
From men's breakfasts to sewing groups – the Swiss Quarter offers meeting places and diverse leisure activities for our older residents. The multigenerational center in Bremen-Swiss Quarter also houses senior apartments and a day care center. For advice on health or other concerns, there are various contact persons nearby who also offer home visits as needed. These include trained healthcare professionals and the mediation service, should any disagreements arise among neighbors.
Plenty of art and culture for everyone
Worthwhile art and culture can be discovered in various locations throughout the Swiss Quarter. A visit to the KulturAmbulanz (Culture Clinic) on the publicly accessible hospital grounds is always worthwhile: the hospital museum features exciting exhibitions, and the neighboring Haus im Park (House in the Park) regularly hosts art, theater, and music events
Art and culture can also be experienced locally in the various cafés in the neighborhood or at the community center Am Siek. During the summer months, open-air concerts and wonderful festivals create a fantastic atmosphere in our neighborhood.
We are a climate-friendly neighborhood
As a climate-friendly neighborhood with plenty of nature, we are further developing the Swiss Quarter with new ideas for a good future: Whether it's the beautifully designed Karl-Heinz-Jantzen-Weg, the historic park on the hospital grounds, the footpaths along the city moats, the multi-generational square or the playground at Pollsdamm – the Swiss Quarter offers plenty of relaxing green space with diverse opportunities for exercise and interaction.
Our residents also appreciate the lively atmosphere around the market square – without the hustle and bustle of a big city. Here, people meet according to the motto: "This is my home and I feel comfortable here!"
Social cohesion is very important to us
The Swiss Quarter is located in the heart of the Osterholz district. Since 2009, it has been supported by the city's programs WIN (Living in Neighborhoods), LOS (Local Capital for Social Purposes) and Social Cohesion.
This includes
- the multi-generational house Bremen-Swiss Quarter with the café on the Fleet,
- the Center for Information, Counseling and Education (ZiBB) and
- the Café Schweizer Viertel
The multi-story Swiss Foyer will be built on the marketplace of the district by 2024: a vibrant social and cultural center for all people in Osterholz.
