The Bremen branch of the German Child Protection Association has been advocating for children's rights for over 70 years.
Active for children in Bremen for over 70 years: The Bremen Child Protection Association was founded in 1953 by dedicated residents of Bremen and is one of the 16 state associations of the German Child Protection Association (DKSB). We are a registered, non-profit organization based in Bremen.
The volunteer board, staff, and numerous other volunteers bring the organization to life through their work. In accordance with its statutes, the German Child Protection Association (Kinderschutzbund) works for the protection and well-being of all children in the Hanseatic city. The Bremerhaven branch is particularly active in protecting children locally.
The goals of the Bremen Child Protection Association:
The Bremen Child Protection Association advocates for the rights of all children and young people to grow up free from violence and to participate in society. We intervene on behalf of all children and young people in Bremen – with the Senate and in planning and decision-making processes in our city. We demand an improvement in the material living conditions of children and families, a child-friendly and healthy environment, and good facilities for children and young people.
Through a wide range of practical services, we are helping to shape a future worth living for all children. We want strong, self-confident children. That's why we support parents in their parenting skills and in their daily lives through courses, counseling, and practical assistance. We support, relieve, and empower children and their families before they encounter crises and problems. Whether dealing with children and parents seeking advice or collaborating with staff and partners – we work on the basis of mutual respect.
The working principle of "helping people to help themselves" is followed. Professional quality is ensured and developed. Our particular strength stems from the voluntary commitment of many citizens in Bremen. In our projects and facilities, unpaid and paid staff work closely together. The Bremen Child Protection Association is democratically organized; all decisions are made collectively.
