More joy with children – Our courses for strong parents and strong children

"Strong Parents – Strong Children"

Course offerings for all mothers and fathers who want to achieve more joy, ease and at the same time more security in raising their children.

Parenting means giving your child positive role models and, above all, love. And as you know, that can sometimes be very demanding. Parenting is hard work. Our parenting courses support you in managing your family life with more composure and confidence. Because they…

  • strengthen the self-confidence of mothers, fathers and children.
  • to help ease the burden of everyday family life and improve relationships.
  • They show ways to manage and resolve conflicts.
  • They offer space for reflection and exchange with other mothers and fathers.
  • They offer you opportunities to create space for yourself and recharge your batteries.
  • They provide information on general parenting topics and children's rights.

This empowers parents

The courses comprise 8 to 12 sessions, each lasting approximately two hours. Each session focuses on a specific theme, such as "Focus on your child's strengths." The underlying theme is illustrated through a brief theoretical introduction and practical exercises. At the end of each session, you will receive a weekly assignment.

Paula Honkanen-Schoberth, former managing director of the German Child Protection Association (DKSB), initiated and led the first parenting course, "Strong Parents – Strong Children," at the DKSB in Aachen in 1985. Her premise was that parenting courses could support and relieve the burden on parents and guide them in finding the parenting style that best suits them and their children.

Finally, in 2000, parent education programs gained new significance in light of the law prohibiting violence. Since then, Section 1631 Paragraph 2 of the German Civil Code (BGB) states: "Children have a right to a non-violent upbringing. Corporal punishment, psychological abuse, and other degrading measures are prohibited."

To practically implement non-violent parenting as an educational ideal, comprehensive parent education programs for families became necessary. From 1999 to 2002, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs funded the German Child Protection Association's parenting courses, "Strong Parents – Strong Children," which enabled us to develop these courses within the Child Protection Association and with other providers.

Since then, a total of 116 trainers have been available, who have trained approximately 14,000 parent course leaders. Thanks to them, around 160,000 parents have been able to attend a parent course, which in turn has benefited an estimated 320,000 children to date.
