Grief counseling for over two decades

Over the past 24 years, the non-profit organization "Trauerland – Zentrum für trauernde Kinder und Jugendliche e. V." (Trauerland – Center for Bereaved Children and Young People) has supported over 1,820 families through their bereavement process, primarily through its children's bereavement groups. Founded as the first organization for bereaved children, young people, and their families in Germany, Trauerland is now a well-connected, firmly established resource, unique in the Northwest region for its extensive experience and expertise.

Experienced and competent

Our team consists of professionals with training in education and psychology. All presenters bring experience from their daily work in Trauerland's bereavement support groups, as well as from providing individual telephone or in-person counseling to grieving children, adolescents, young adults, and their families.

Mourningland education emerges

Since 2000, Trauerland has offered seminars, workshops, and lectures on the topic of grief in children and young people. Under the umbrella of Trauerland Bildung (Trauerland Education), we have consolidated our offerings to share over two decades of experience in supporting children and young people through grief. In 2020, we expanded to include digital formats, which have since been offered nationwide. As with our in-person events, the online formats range from short lectures to multi-day seminars.

About our training events

Safe handling of grieving children and adolescents

Our seminars and workshops are primarily aimed at professionals who come into contact with grieving children and adolescents in their daily work. They sensitize participants to the needs of grieving young people and foster an understanding of the diverse ways in which children and adolescents express grief. Providing practical guidance, principles, and a fundamental approach contributes to a sense of confidence in responding sensitively to various grief reactions. We also offer events for those interested in gaining an initial insight into the topic. All participants receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of a training course.

Evaluated and accredited

The effectiveness of Trauerland's support and counseling services has been externally evaluated and confirmed. All educational programs are based on the Trauerland concept and equip participants to interact safely with, and even support, grieving children and adolescents. The workshops, seminars, and online events are accredited by the Psychotherapists' Chamber of Lower Saxony/Bremen or are currently undergoing accreditation application.
